Enterprise Data Management

From Member-Centric to Customer-Centric: How Wawanesa and Infoverity Unlocked Cross-Sell Opportunities with MDM

Wawanesa Case Study - Challenges and results

We are thrilled to announce the successful go-live of a SaaS Master Data Management (MDM) implementation for Wawanesa Insurance, a leading multi-line insurance carrier. This milestone marks a significant achievement in our company’s mission. Helping clients transform their data from a siloed challenge into a strategic asset for growth.

This project involved the implementation of Informatica’s SaaS MDM platform. The goal was to create a single, unified view of the member by sourcing and mastering data from separate Property & Casualty and Life policy administration systems. Providing clean, trusted data to downstream analytics systems has given Wawanesa’s critical information a scalable MDM foundation. This enables future expansion to commercial and claims data and enhancing their enterprise data capabilities.

Wawanesa and Infoverity Collaboration

Wawanesa’s vision was clear. The goal was to establish an enterprise data repository, providing a single, authoritative view of every member, whether an individual or a company. To achieve this, they needed more than just a technology vendor. Wawanesa needed a strategic partner with deep expertise in both Master Data Management (MDM) and the insurance industry.

Infoverity was selected to guide this transformation. Our role was to design and deploy a robust MDM solution. This would serve as the central hub for all member data, establishing a foundation for data stewardship, continuous improvement, and advanced analytics.

The Business Challenge: Overcoming a Policy-Centric Culture

Wawanesa faced a series of challenges rooted in their member-centric data model, which hindered their ability to gain a complete and actionable view of their members. Key challenges included:

  • Data Silos and Duplication: Member information was fragmented across five separate sources for their Personal P&C and Life business lines. This made it nearly impossible to establish a unified view of individual customers.
  • Inability to Track Changes Across Business Lines: Regular updates, such as changes in names, addresses, or household structures, were not consistently tracked. This disjointed data created gaps in understanding the customer journey across policies.
  • Data Quality Issues: Legacy systems contained data quality challenges, making it difficult to differentiate unique members.
  • Limited Analytical Insights: Core calculations—like member tenure, status, and age—were difficult to calculate. This prevented Wawanesa from accurately identifying opportunities to reduce churn, detect fraud, or calculate customer lifetime value.

Without a single source of truth for member data, valuable business insights remained locked away, and marketing efforts couldn’t be strategically targeted.

The Technical Solution: Building the MDM Foundation

To address these challenges, Infoverity implemented a modern, cloud-based Master Data Management (MDM) solution using the Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) suite. This strategic solution enabled Wawanesa to transition from fragmented, siloed data to a unified member-centric model.

  1. Data Sourcing and Integration: Member data was sourced from Wawanesa’s core Property & Casualty (P&C) and Life Policy Administration Systems. This provided the foundation for creating a comprehensive master data solution by unifying data from different business lines.
  2. Creating the Master Record: Using Informatica’s SaaS MDM platform, Infoverity developed a trusted “master member record” (also referred to as a Golden Record). This process involved cleansing, standardizing, matching, and merging duplicate records to create a single, accurate profile for each member.
  3. Syndication to Downstream Systems: Once the data was mastered, it was syndicated to downstream systems, including reporting and analytics platforms and the organization’s data warehouse. This ensured that teams across Wawanesa operated from the same trusted data source, enabling consistent and reliable insights.
  4. Scalable and Future-Ready: The cloud-native solution was built with scalability in mind. It established a foundation that could easily be expanded to include additional data domains, such as commercial and claims data, to continue growing Wawanesa’s enterprise-level data capabilities.

This implementation bridged the gap between Wawanesa’s existing systems and their vision for a unified data infrastructure. The result was not just clean and trusted data, but also a scalable platform that transformed their organization into one that is truly data driven.
