A leader in global security software recently hired Infoverity to improve performance of customer insight and retire a batch, hard coding based enrichment solution.  To meet 2018 efficiency and contract deadlines, Infoverity migrated current hard coded workflows into a real-time based solution leveraging the Informatica Data Quality and Dun & Bradstreet’s Direct+ offering.

The deployment discarded hardcoded business rules and flat files as part of a larger Dun & Bradstreet Integration Manager (IM) setup.  This was a key input into their Master Data Management (MDM) solution to keep their B2B data up-to-date with key segmentation values and hierarchical relationships for their global customer base.  Leveraging Informatica components already in place, Infoverity easily pivoted to a real-time, scalable data solution – leveraging the speed and seamless integration between Direct+ and Infoverity’s use of Informatica Data Quality.

Based on the fixed deadline, a tactical solution was needed to accomplish hard business requirements of timeline and cost.  Infoverity led the transition and future state architecture definition efforts, and then executed the transition state to meet an aggressive timeline.  A critical success factor for the transition state was zero throw away configuration as part of the tactical solution. Key to this success was the deployment of Infoverity’s Direct+ integration accelerator, allowing the team to meet the objective of zero throw away effort for the tactical state.  This also allowed the team to focus on new Direct+ features and consistent matching results vs technical nuts and bolts of integration. Based on this, the master data steering committee agreed that the first phase would be a seamless replacement of the existing IM processes, but required no throw away effort when pivoting to the future state. The previous integration workflow (below) required batch data to be converted into a flat file.  This resulted in a choppy, inconsistent data flow with many points of failure before being delivered to MDM and operational processes:

The team was tasked with replacing the workflow with real-time based service leveraging Direct+. This presented a number of challenges:

  1. Mapping the existing Integration Manager response to the Direct+ Response.
  2. Transformations to the Direct+ response were implemented where a direct one to one mapping was not possible.
  3. The Direct+ calls were implemented in IDQ with a focus on reusability in future phases of development.
  4. Implemented Infoverity Accelerator solution that enables IDQ to make service calls.
  5. The Match process in IM is significantly different from the Match process in Direct+. After a thorough analysis, a minimum set of Match rules were implemented.
The D&B company information integration has been completely replaced with no impact on current sales initiatives.  Furthermore, some future initiatives are already enabled, and some of the requirements of the next phase have already been partially implemented.    The new workflow is represented below.
